livigno hotels

So you’re a beginner skier, and you have no idea where to begin. All your friends are talking about their amazing ski trip, and it feels like you can’t take part in the action. Well here are our top tips to get you started, and soon you’ll be on your way down those slopes like a pro!

1. Check out the Resort
One of the most important things to do is first check out the resorts on offer, as some are for the pros and others are for beginners and intermediate skiers. One of the best destinations for beginner and intermediate skiers is the Livigno Ski Resort in Italy! They especially cater to beginners and intermediate skiers, with loads of outstanding ski schools to get you well on your way. There are also awesome Livigno hotels or ski apartments to choose from to suit any budget and any special requirements you have.

2. Borrow, don’t Buy
Of course you want to look your best on the slopes, but buying ski gear can be expensive, for your first ski trip, so the golden rule is to borrow. Even if it means wearing your neighbour’s fading all-in-one from way back when, just do it. After a few days on the slopes you may decide, as some people do, although we have no idea why, that skiing is not for you. And you will be stuck with an outfit you’ll never wear again and a hefty bill to match it.

3. Don’t let your Friends Teach you to Ski
As much as your friends think they’re ski experts, when you’re a beginner, this is a very bad idea! Do not let them be your ski instructor! Go for reputable ski instructor schools, of which there are plenty at the Livigno Ski Resort and these can be arranged through the Livigno hotels that you book. They are the experts, so let them show you the ropes! In Livigno Ski Resort, which is based in Italy, the tuition fees can be way less than they are in French Ski Resorts.

  4. Get that Exercise In
Another golden rule, get fit! You’ll be amazed at how fit you need to be to head down those slopes, so head to the gym and get those muscles moving leaving plenty of time to get fit and ready. Make sure you get those arms and leg muscles in tip-top shape.

5. Practice on an Indoor Ski Slope
Most cities and towns have indoor ski slopes, so if you can get some practice in here before you go. You won’t be sorry, as you’ll get a feel for what it’s really like. They’re like giant fridges that make their own snow, so it will be as authentic as you’ll get without being at a ski resort!

6. Watch some Videos

Get in the mood and watch some videos of skiers having uber fun to get you in the mood! Okay, it’s not going to teach you how to get on the slopes and go flying off immediately, but at least you’ll get a feel for the cool fun you can have hotels in livigno italy.

There are our top tips for getting started as a beginner skier. The best thing to do is relax, prepare, get into it, and most importantly have fun!

Late Season Snow & Spring Skiing Livigno

Avid skiers that seek late season snow should consider a vacation to enjoy spring skiing in Livigno, Italy.  There are a number of reasons that Livigno is a prime spring skiing destination, and is recognized throughout Europe for the excellent snow quality late into the season.  If you have never been skiing in April or May under sunny skies, this year may be your chance to visit this high alpine resort for a new adventure, and if you are a dedicated spring skier Livigno is one place you should not miss on your list of special places to try.

Why Is Spring Skiing Special?

Spring skiing has its own qualities, and it is usually long time skiers who appreciate the advantages.  Some of the reasons that spring skiing attracts vacationers are the discounts offered on lift passes and lodging, fewer crowds and of course warmer temperatures.  But for the experienced skier, the number one reason is the type of snow found in the springtime, which is known as “corn snow” with a texture and feel that gives a completely different ski experience.  Once you have spent a day skiing this soft and forgiving snow under warm and sunny skies, you will be hooked for life on this little known part of the sport.

Spring skiing in Livigno has all of these qualities, combined with a location and ambience that makes a visitor feel as though they have entered the perfect place for a skiing holiday in the Alps.

The High Altitude Destination for Late Season Snow

The resorts of Livigno stay open until May of each year, and this is partially due to the abundant and stable snowfall.  The peak elevation of 3000 meters ensures that most years Livigno will enjoy a good base of snow that can last late into the season.  The altitude also brings colder temperatures at night that helps to preserve the snow base even as it gets much warmer in the valley.  The lower slopes at Livigno can utilize snowmaking capability when needed, and man-made snow has the ability to last longer than natural snow.  These factors along with the altitude preserve the perfect snow quality, resisting the problem of “slush” snow on the lower slopes. Even on sunny days the temperature remains near freezing, so the snow base does not as melt quickly as other lower elevation resorts.   Livigno will surprise the most discerning spring skier with the exact combination of elements needed for perfect late season snow.

Skiing, Shopping and Exploring Under Sunny Skies

April and May offer sunny days that are perfect for skiing, or simply strolling the village and exploring the many duty free shops that make Livigno famous.  Most people agree that visiting a mountain resort is most enjoyable when the weather is mild, and the warm sun makes all activities possible.  Even non-skiers can enjoy a walk through the valley in the sunshine, or spend a few hours with friends at an outdoor cafĂ©.  Sometimes the most rejuvenating part of a mountain vacation is time spent appreciating the views and relaxing in the fresh air.

In order to encourage late season visitors, some hotels in livigno italy will offer promotions or discounts and this can add to the attraction of a spring vacation.  When combined with the reasonable prices of food and drink and duty free bargains, a spring skiing vacation in Livigno presents a great value to visitors.

Off the Beaten Path – The Alpine Ski Resort at Livigno

Many if not most of the Alpine ski resorts you are likely to visit are renowned for their beauty, as well as what they have to offer to the recreational skier or snowboarder. Given what the Alps have to offer, that should come as no surprise. The ski resort at Livigno is no different in that respect. Livigno has a great deal of old world charm, there is duty-free shopping, the food and accommodations range from very good to superb, and the skiing is excellent. It is also less expensive than is the case with many of the other ski resorts in Italy, as well as in nearby Austria and Switzerland.

The Town of Livigno

Livigno is located in the midst of the high (1,816 m) Valle del Sole in the Italian Alps, not far from the Swiss border. The town and resort area is both a winter and summer destination. In the wintertime, when the area is covered in snow and ice, skiing is the major pastime. In the summertime, it’s mountain biking, guided hikes, and visits to rivers and waterfalls. Livigno is a duty-free zone, where you will find many shopping opportunities.

The Valle del Sole lies on a path running from Zurich, Switzerland south to Milano and is nearly equidistant from the two metropolises. Zurich is 200 km to the north and Milano is 220 km to the south. A duty free zone provides shopping opportunities when away from the slopes. Innsbruck, Austria lies 185 km to the north and east, while Rome is a more distant 780 km to the south.

Getting There

You can travel to the ski resort at Livigno by car, but it is not highly recommended to travel that way during ski season. If you decide to rent a car and drive, carry chains with you. There is train service from the major European cities, but not directly to Livigno. Connections must be made by bus. The nearest airports are in Milano, Bolzano, Zurich, Innsbruck, and Monaco. Ski Livigno offers transfer services from several of these airports.

The Ski Area
The Livigno ski areas have become both a skier's and snowboarder's paradise in recent years. Group ski and snowboard lessons are available. Rates are higher during the mid-winter high season but only by about 10 euros for six 2-hour lessons. You can choose from a wide range of lift passes, from morning or afternoon tickets to 1-day to 13-day passes. Lift passes tend to be significantly cheaper at the beginning and the end of the ski season than during mid-season.

Accommodations

A wide range of accommodations are available in hotels in livigno italy, ranging from hotels and bed and breakfasts to furnished apartments. Hotel prices typically run in the 60 to 70 euros per person/per night range, but you can find rooms at highly recommended hotels for under 50 euros/night. You can find accommodations in the center of town that are located only a few minutes walking distance to the nearest ski lift.

What Visitors Have to Say

While skiers at all levels enjoy what Livigno hotels has to offer, the area in general has a wide appeal to both newcomers to the sport as well as intermediate skiers. If you can manage only one or two ski outings a year, Livigno is an excellent destination. The resort area features a wide variety of runs, and less experienced skiers need not be confined to the bunny slopes. Many visitors prefer to stay in accommodations in or near the center of the town, locations which are still within walking distances of the lifts, but also where the duty-free shopping as well as the nightlife holds sway. The slopes are not crowded and lift line waits are not lengthy except on occasion during peak hours, which is usually a good time for a lunch break. Most reviewers make mention of the food which, in typical Italian fashion, is usually excellently prepared.
